The Pagani Design 1701 v3The watch head (cased movement) is very well done. Markings are clean and clear, and the movement hands line up well with them. The case styling is extremely close to the actual Omega Speedmaster. The space themed case back and signed crown are well executed (though the case back is a little bizarre, featuring the moon, the space shuttle with boosters and tank, and a couple of ringed planets). The case, dial, sub-dial size and spacing, and the markings are all well proportioned and very similar to the Omega, and just as easily readable. The lume is not outstanding, but it is readable in near-total darkness for significantly longer than expected. It’s just not particularly noticeable in low-light circumstances. The Seiko caliber VK63 movement is a reliable, proven unit, and gives that mechanically tactile feel when operating the pushers. I do appreciate the added date window complication as well, especially since it’s useable, but not prominent.Differences from the actual Speedmaster include the aforementioned date complication (not present in the Speedy Pro), upgrade from the plastic “Hesalite” crystal to an actual sapphire crystal (no anti-glare coating), upgrade from the aluminum tachometer bezel to a ceramic one, and a claimed increase from a 50m water resistance to 100m (WR ratings are not to be taken as literal unless it’s an ISO-certified dive watch). These are all impressive upgrades for a $120 watch. The Seiko VK63 mecha-quartz movement is an outstanding and proven unit, but know that the hour sub-dial does not measure elapsed hours (nor was it intended to); rather, it functions as a 24-hour clock. This is not necessarily a drawback; it simply means that the most practical affordable movement available lacks the elapsed timer hours feature for the watch it emulates. That said, the Seiko movement is absolutely sterling in operation and function. It’s large timer second hand sweeps at approximately 6 ticks p/s, and is accurate and lines up well with the dial markings. The small seconds tick once p/s. The pushers give a mechanical feel and positive actuation. This is most certainly a very real chronograph movement. The end user will have decades of reliable service from this typically solid Seiko caliber. The bracelet is an all solid link bracelet, with solid end links, and is actually reasonably well done (especially for this price range). The outer edges of the links could use just the slightest radius to help from feeling like they are a little too “sharp”. This is more of a subjective comfort thing, however, and I don’t particularly notice it after wearing the watch for a couple of weeks. The solid end links are not perfectly fitted to the lugs of the watch case, protruding past them marginally, but are otherwise decently done. The bracelet is very flexible, and the female end links make this 42mm watch wear smaller than it is. A nice touch is the small polished links (they are separate) on the inner side of the outer row of links. There are a limited number of removable links (these are pinned, as expected for this price), so be aware if you have small wrists that adjustment is very finite. The watch does come with a tool to remove/reseat the link pins. The clasp has three micro adjustment holes, and the clasp is decent (if somewhat clunky on my example) dual push-button design for the price. There is a stamped (the only stamped piece on the entire watch), folding divers expansion in the clasp that serves no purpose for this watch, but I suspect that this clasp is used on other Pagani homage watches as well. It’s a non-issue as it’s hidden and does not impact the clasp appearance or function.Overall, it’s clear Pagani Design put their major efforts into the watch case, case back, dial, and upgrades like the sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel, and less so into the bracelet (the the bracelet is not a dud by any means). The bracelet does not sink the watch, though; just a little more refinement and it’s there. Add in the fact it’s powered by a genuine, proven Seiko mecha-quartz chronograph movement, and this watch is an absolute bargain at $120.If you’re considering this watch (the 1701 v3) as a viable Omega Speedmaster Professional homage, you won’t be disappointed. From any distance, this looks for all the world like a real Speedmaster. I thought that, surely, the maker of the real "Speedy", with its iconic and unique design, would be seeking what the lawyers call injunctive relief. The case size is 42mm diameter and 14mm thick with 20mm lug spacing. Black dial with long, thin, high-viz white hands and three sub dials at or below the dial's horizontal center line. And the tachymetre scale on the fixed bezel is the real deal, although I doubt many people will take the time to learn how to use it. (I didn't and probably won't learn how to use it, but I understand that it's used in conjunction with the chronograph seconds hand to measure the speed of an object or person over a predetermined distance. So, a time/speed/distance calculator familiar to any blue-water skipper. ) Closer inspection of the watch will reveal lots of differences. Inside the case is a Seiko quartz movement, not a multi-jewel Swiss mechanical chronograph. The bracelet, with solid end links, closely resembles the real Speedy bracelet, but it's obviously of somewhat lesser heft and quality, especially the clasp. I can't comment on the comfort of the bracelet, because I replaced it with a rubber strap right out of the box. And the three sub dials, there's the rub. Different sub dial functions on the Pagani vs the Speedy. So, not to worry, Speedmaster, this Pagani Design 1701 is an homage to your accuracy and stellar aerospace history, not a clumsy stylistic ripoff. There is no doubt in my mind that chaps in Swatch & Omega are kicking themselves silly after seeing this mouth watering watch by Pagani. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it meets and surpasses every expectation one could honestly have. You're not an Omega Speedy, why even pretend, but what you're buying at a mere fraction of the price is a superb time piece inspired by Omega There are problems with the Omega such as the costly servicing required every so often, accuracy, the reluctance to wear daily, due to the massive price label, and the always looming possibility of accidental damage. So you don't care about those things, fine. But what about that price label? This watch is no longer a cheap homage or alternative. It's a piece of luxury in it's own right and deserves, and commands, a high degree of respect in my opinion.First time buying a Pagani, and I'm glad I chose this one. Domed sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, milled clasp (pressed exterior, but who cares..), and a true 5 link bracelet with solid end links. The movement is a Seiko mecha-quartz so it's going to be robust, reliable, and accurate. It's a fantastic looking watch that's comfortable to wear and will hold up to daily wear. Just touch up the clasp with a scotch Brite pad occasionally to minimize scratches if you feel like it. If you're looking for a moon watch homage, this is the one to get. Very solid piece that I'm very, very pleased with.I own various versions of Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Orvis, Hamilton, Tag Heurer, Seiko as well as Orient and Timex. I have been waiting so long for the Omega Speedmaster Professional to become available at my jewelers. I will never wear a ‘fake’ high-end timepiece. I’d rather wear a real Timex before I wear a fake Rolex. This Pagani Design Speedy has satiated my immediate urge for the real thing. Polished case, ceramic bezel, similar dial face and markers with a highly functioning tach pleasantly surprised me. The deal maker for me was the Seiko VK63 mécha-quartz movement. Had this watch come with a cheap quartz or even a cheap mechanical Chinese movement like (Seagull movements) I would have never purchased this watch. All of the makers line up precisely with the dial markers and so far the movement is on the money. I’ve only had this watch for less than a week. I will update this post if anything negative occurs. 4 stars only but if equipped with an excellent automatic movement I will rate it a 5 (all things equal)Cadisen make very good watches. Buy yourself one you will not be disappointed.Tamaño óptimo (mod. 42 mm). So let's not beat around the bush, you like the omega speedy design and would like to own one but then you take a look at the price tag and get a mild heart attack. You keep looking and find that omega x swatch had a collaboration and released what they call the moonswatch but then you realize how hard it is to find one and how cheaply made they truly are so you just give up until you stumble upon this beauty. To call it a high quality fake would be an understatement, it uses a seiko VK63 quartz movement and looks identical to the speedy except for... well the logo of course. In my opinion this is a great hommage to the speedy and if you like the speedy then you'll love this. Oh and did I mention the price diffrence that won't give you a mild heart attack?Cons:Why in God's name is the original strap not a quick release?!?!?!And the buttons protection cover tape is so hard to remove like holy hell...
